Anathema

Maevyth lies in bed and sings. At the end of her song, she sees a spider in the corner of the room and grabs the puzzle book that Dolion gave her. The spider moves into the shadows but returns when Maevyth hums.

Maevyth drops the book, which pricks her finger. Her blood touches the book’s cover, filling a small vial and unlocking the first page. The book shows Corvus Keep surrounded by raven warriors, Corvugons, armored soldiers, and dragons. When Maevyth touches the words, they transform into legible text.

The pictures move when she touches them, showing a battle between the Corvikae and an unknown invader. Alongside the image is a woman with black hair called Morsana. The warriors are fighting over a black flame that hurts Maevyth’s hand when she touches it. The next page has another puzzle, but she is too tired to try to open it. She decides to save it for tomorrow. She checks again for the spider, but it is gone.
